METALLICA: SANITARIUM Schedule To Accommodate Working Fans
February 14, 2003METALLICA have made every effort to accommodate their fans who have to work during the week when devising the touring schedule for the upcoming Summer Sanitarium 2003.
"We learned last time around that booking stadium shows on weekdays...not a great thing," METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said. "Not to get too smart and too analytical, but we basically wanted to keep it on the weekends. So, we are doing six weekends in a row Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and July 4 is a Friday. So, that's when it's starting because we're finishing the previous weekend in Europe. There you go (laughs)."
Despite having only recently announced their plans for the tour (which also features LIMP BIZKIT, LINKIN PARK, DEFTONES, and MUDVAYNE),METALLICA have admitted that the initial plans for the trek were actually drawn up in 2002.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett was asked how long METALLICA knew about Summer Sanitarium 2003.
"I'd say for the last four to six weeks, I think, maybe longer," he said. "It was always something that was always in the back of our minds anyway when we were recording this album. We did a Summer Sanitarium in 2000 that worked really well with KORN and KID ROCK and SYSTEM OF A DOWN. And so, the idea was always to go back into the studio, record an album and go out and do another Summer Sanitarium tour."
Tickets for Summer Sanitarium 2003 go on sale February 22. So far, the following dates have been leaked (but not yet officially confirmed):
Jul. 18 – Washington D.C. @ FedEx Field
Jul. 27- Minneapolis, MN @ The Metrodome
